Nursery rhymes is a popular baby theme. It's familiar and comforting and gender neutral. There are many invitations available that fit the theme. BabyShowerGamesAtoZ.com even offers full packages for the theme.
So, what do you do if you want to throw a Nursery Rhyme
themed shower? You can start with decorations that the
mom-to-be can take home with her. Make a diaper cake in a
nursery rhyme theme for the centerpiece or perhaps some
stuffed nursery rhyme dolls (a cow and a moon, a lamb, etc.)
With the food, you'll need to get creative. You can make
“Little Boy Blue” haystacks by melting a package of
chocolate chips and butterscotch chips and stirring in chow
mein noodles. Then just drop by spoonful onto a foiled
cookie sheet and allow to harden. You can make “dog bones”
for Old Mother Hubbard's pup (and for your guests) by
cutting dog bone shapes out of sugar cookie dough. Humpty
Dumpty can be remembered through deviled eggs or little
quiches. Cut out small sandwiches in the shape of “Twinkle,
Twinkle” stars. Yogurt dip can stand in for curds and whey.
If you want to get creative with the gift giving, you can
assign each guest a nursery rhyme to inspire their gift. Hey
Diddle, Diddle could inspire the gift of music (from the
fiddle) or bedding for night (from the moon). Little Bo Peep
might bring a sheepskin or something decorated with lambs.
There are many game possibilities. You can play nursery
rhyme charades or pictionary. You can see who can guess the
most nursery rhymes from clues. You can pin a nursery rhyme
character to the back of each of the guests and have them
guess who they are through a series of yes/no questions.
The following is a possibility if you want to make your own
invitations. Make sure to include the full shower
information on the inside.
