All parents want to create a wonderful learning
environment for their precious children, so why not host a
shower that will put the baby on the way to genius status?
Plan a party that centers around learning.
To set the tone, decorate with red, black, and white
(colors thought to stimulate the baby's vision) or with an
alphabet, nursery rhyme, or book theme. Serve brainy foods.
Lecithin occurs naturally in eggs and is thought to improve
brain function, so a quiche or deviled eggs would be
perfect. Wheat germ is another brain booster, so serving
some whole grain muffins is a tasty and smart alternative.
Nuts are another brainy food, so serve them separately or in
a recipe. If all of this is too "cerebral" for you, you can
go the cute route and serve foods that start with the
a,b,c's-- apple muffins, banana bread, cake, making sure to
point out the connection with a block or letter near the
treats.
Gifts can be as simple as everyone bringing a book, or if
you're up to something a bit more complicated, you can
assign each guest in their invitation a letter of the
alphabet to coincide with her gift. For example, A might
bring an album or alphabet blocks. Q could bring a quilt.
Play word games. List scrambled words related to pregnancy,
labor, and babies and see who can unscramble them first.
Play bingo with baby words. List both parents' names and see
how many baby names people can make out of the letters. Pick
lines from nursery rhymes and see who can name the nursery
rhyme. Bonus points if they can say the whole thing.
